The new engine in the TW was not shifting well. It ran fine, but after shifting gears, the shift lever would not spring back into position. At first I thought that there was an issue with the transmission. However, each gear rode fine when it was shifted into position. I realized that there must be an issue with the shift lever. I disassembled the rightside case cover, dismounted the clutch basket, and removed the shift lever. Indeed, a torsion spring on the shift lever was busted, as seen below.
And below this is the one off my original engine, which shifted fine.
It was not that difficult of a repair, as I already had plenty of experience with the clutch basket. The bike shifts like a dream now, and as far as I can tell, no oil is dripping anywhere. I’ve been riding it as hard as I normally do, meaning I’m wheeling it and riding at high rpms. She handles it well.
